Day#248

Lost picture from mall make up day

Day#250

This is a picture of the foot scan done at a shoe store at the Galleria. I think it's apparent I've come to putting little pressure on that dang left heel. I just want to get back to Zumba so bad. Foot get better!

Day#249

Our friends the Vances were here from Oklahoma this week. The mirror was given to us about a year ago by Matt, so I wanted their picture with it. The mirror is very old and had been in his family for years. It had been badly damaged in one of their moves, but he painstakingly repaired it and then painted to my order. I think it's perfect in our living room.

Day#246

I have a million screenshots like this, art projects I want to do but I never start them. Summer would seem like a good time, but...

Day#248

Our birthday gift to the neighbor girls was a shopping day at the mall. They about wore me down, but I found out even young girls' feet get tired out, too.

Here we are in Sephora which was really fun for me, too. We tried out all kinds of makeup.

The girls had fun portraying themselves as my daughters named April, May, and June.  No one caught on to the cleverness at Starbucks, but the girl writing their names on the Urban Outfitters dressing room doors sure did.

Day#245

Sam at his escrima class on Saturday mornings at the Y

Day#247

Bob's spot of sunshine moved.

Day#244

When Gary got home from scout camp, he noticed I was no longer wearing my wedding ring. I think he might have thought the worst.

But what really happened was a serious issue with my ring. I had it cut off and resized several years ago. The gold that the jeweler rebuilt it with must have worn completely off because I was left with both bands having a sharp, vertical separation.

So one early morning as I was drying my hands with a towel, the ring separated far enough to trap my finger flesh inside and then closed back up tight. I couldn't do anything to get it off or opened back up myself. Luckily, Jack was here with me so I woke him up, but he was so groggy, plus completely confused on how the ring was separated. I think he was picturing it as a space horizontally between the two bands.

Not able to stand it any longer, I grabbed a pair of scissors from his desk to try to pry the two sides apart but that was too difficult one-handed. Then he tried using his Leatherman tool but that was too bulky for the small space. I was about to panic after so many minutes in excruciating pain. He tried the scissors and that worked! The flesh was released and the ring pinched back to where it was supposed to be. Woo, was that a relief. And now I'm not wearing my ring until it's fixed.

Day#243

Julia was here for a visit!  Funny story, Julia had mailed Caroline's birthday card on June 10 in Panama, giving it a week to get here in time for the June 17 birthday. Except that date came and went and the card just never showed up...until the day after Julia got here, July 25. Pretty cool timing, Panama!  And happy to say, the $12 cash gift was still inside.

Day#242

Now hopefully I'm back on track with the days' numbers. Oy!

So while the house was fairly quiet with only Jack and I at home, I've been trying to figure out the best window covering option for the basement. I brought home various items ranging from shower curtains to a tablecloth to thrift shop sheers to curtains. I was trying them all out without actually putting up a rod since there's options there too of grommets, clips, or rod pocket and do I go above the transom window or below it. So many options are making it difficult, but I am eventually weeding out what doesn't work and have found costs can range from $20 to $100 plus. Funny that my two favorites are the cheapest, the tablecloth, and the most expensive, the real curtains.

It's hard to get a good picture against a window, but I've taken a bunch to supposedly help the process.

Hopefully this project will be done by tomorrow.

Day#237

Ok,a re-try on #237, don't know where it went.

Summer sunset

Day#241

Jack and I got the grid back up into the window. We added extra nails to secure it better. I don't think it could handle another dropping. The right bottom piece was pretty well shattered and you can see even once glued, it's not quite right. But at least it's not a naked window.  It was weird with all that glass bare.

Day#240

Gary glued and clamped the broken parts before he left for camp.

Day#239

I heard a crash in the night but didn't know until the next morning just what it was. Somehow the wooden grid from the dining room window fell out and busted up some parts. Bob almost got the blame, but really I don't think it had anything to do with him since there's no ledge, no where for him to even be near the window.  Guess it just mysteriously fell.

Day#238

Day#236

Sis got a hair cut and she's happy.

Day#234

Grant has had his permit for three days and we didn't make time to go drive until tonight. He cruised Mark Trail a couple of times and did great.

Day#234

Soupy coconut pie from when we finally celebrated Jack's birthday together. I will say it tasted far better than it looked. When will I ever make a good looking pie? I should just keep on practicing I guess.

Day#233

When I googled Gills A Go Go images, this was there. Ha!

Day#232

Our 19 year anniversary, July 13. No pic. I saw G at about 10 o'clock that night, already in my pjs and calling it another day, too late to celebrate.

Day#231

A picture I liked. Could be here but it's in Wisconsin, I believe.

Day#230

Did get the pool back to clear but having cool cool days. Very unJuly somehow.

Day#229

Time to catch up into mid-July. Oy, how do I let so many days float by?

I asked Bob but he had no answer.

Day#228

Jack's birthday!  We celebrated number 17 with a beef Manhattan lunch (again this year!) and DQ cookie dough ice cream cake. Gifts with the family will happen this weekend when we finally have some time that we are all home together because that definitely isn't the case today or in the next couple of days.

But luckily, he didn't have to wait on Ross' gift. It did confuse Jack as it did me because we didn't really know who the painting was of, but Ross said it was John Wayne. And when we googled John Wayne images, this one was the first that came up and it is identical in pose, hat, and neckerchief. The artist kinda missed the mark on facial features but oh well, nice of Ross to buy it for Jack. Notice it's signed!  Ha

Day#227

Oh, and I went back to the podiatrist the next day to get a laser treatment on the plantar wart that happened to be on my lame foot. That's gonna be better soon, too.

Day#226

I finally went to the podiatrist. Just what I thought, it is plantar fasciitis. I have exercises to do and an inflammatory medicine to take and am supposed to wear shoes all the time unless in the shower or in bed. And then it should heal. The doctor would like a "20-30% improvement within the next two weeks" and I didn't really know how that would be measured, but he says by how I react to his pushing on my heel for one thing. And he said that I will be able to easily tell if it's improving day to day.

I just know I really want to get back to Zumba.

Day#225

And just like that, we are back to green as the grass. Heck of a summer with this dern pool.

Day#224

Sam caught fish at Grandma and Grandpa Gill's.  No pun intended. Honestly.

Day#223

Our 4th of July was not picture-worthy, I guess. The kids were gone to Clay County. I floated in the pool until about 9pm while Gary did school work. We went out for a drive at 10:30pm but there wasn't much going on. Town was dead so we drove through Wood River and back and called it a night.

Next year maybe we'll be living it up!

Day#222

Look at Sam's pet chick. Or maybe it's a pet potato.

Day#221

I saw this at Wal-Mart and it cracked me up in so many ways.

·Loved the play on words--Petchup, the condiment for your dog

·But was confused why the two different colored products and labels for the exact same flavor--Beef flavored treat

·And especially relieved to know--Petchup is gluten-free

Day#220

Safety first! as we always say around here.

Right.

Or maybe it's "Laughs first! Safety"s at least second."

Background info:  Ross and I were cleaning up the huge kitchen mess from tonight's pasta supper. He had brought watermelon and pumpkin pie over for dessert, and the leftover watermelon carcass reminded him of a bike helmet and once he mentioned that, I said, "Come here, Sam!" knowing we would have a willing participant.  I had the Saran Wrap already in my hands from putting away the leftovers and it just all came together beautifully.

Ross was concerned that the weight of the melon helmet might be too much for Sam's neck but no worries, Sam was able to ride his bike down the street and back with no problem other than a deer running out in front of him. Not kidding.
