Day#110

The hundred dollar tree

I went into Kohl's with a deal for $5 free towards anything in the store.  I thought I'd pick up a new pair of socks, because you know *practical*, but spotted a tall box among the clearanced household stuff.  I didn't really notice it was a Christmas decoration at the time, but did notice it was LED lights and was 90% off.  That sounded cool so I picked it up and carried it around the store, just in case I found something even cooler.  I of course didn't, so I ended up at the checkout with the decorative fake light up tree that was originally priced at $99.99.  I figured it must *really* be some extra impressive fake decorative light up tree to run that much, so I felt pretty smug walking out the door with it for only $5 after I used my $5 free towards it.

I took it home, slid it out of the box and was pretty disappointedly amazed how plastic-y it felt and looked.  The kids pointed out (well, actually it was Grant OF COURSE) that having the fake snow on the underside of the branches really didn't make it seem realistic at all.  But it did illuminate and I used it as a four foot tall night light a couple nights which then I decided was kinda a crazy use.  So now it's packed back into the box and in the storage area along with other Christmas decorations.  We'll see what we think of the hundred dollar tree next December.

There is no way anyone should have ever paid that for this. I'd say $5-$10 max.

Day#109

What I did yesterday, our first spring-like day:

Tackled those dang out of control nearly lethal rose bushes. And got rid of a load of snow, ha!

Day#108

These are our two games we've been playing lately. No Monopoly-type time commitment required with these.

We've also started making up names for scorekeeping. It started innocently enough earlier this winter when someone wrote Grant, but it looked like Giant. And then someone took the next step to name me Loser right after Giant. That got some laughs so of course it perpetuated and now we all have new names each game.

A sampling:

Ross=Rosster=TheBoss
Grant=Giant=Granite=GraniteCountertop (my fave)
Gary=WarrenG=Pedro
Diane=Loser=Lucky=Tina (paired with Pedro as in 'You fat lard')
Sam=Slam=SamBoDean (another fave to say)

So, Racko was a game I played as a kid and loved. I was so excited to find it at a yard sale at some point, but just recently convinced the family to try it. Let's just say it's not a high skill game. I always like playing, though, maybe because it's one I can win. It's a numbers game, but virtually no math involved.

Day#106

Bob is so confused why his human won't open the door for him.
I'm so confused how Grant could sleep so long like this.
The warmth of the fireplace is greater than the hardness of the hearth apparently.

Day#104

I saw this on the washer...thought it was weird to have a dead moth on it. Looked a little closer and realized it wasn't a moth.

Day#103

Looks like it's gonna be another day of surviving on cookies and milk.

Day#102

This was a fun day! I got an invitation for breakfast out with two fine young gentlemen named Ross and Jack, enjoyed some physical activity moving a little wood, went into town with Gary, spent the snowy afternoon baking up a crazy amount of chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies of different varieties, and then in the evening all of us played several rounds of Racko and Pit. I didn't cook a single meal the whole day and totally filled up on laughs. My kind of Saturday!

Day#101

We went out for Joe's pizza Friday night and this dress seemed to be the topic at probably nearly everyone's table. What's so weird is when Caroline first showed me, I saw it as gold and white (and so did she and Gary) with 100% certainty. But then later when I looked at it and started with just looking at the skirt half, I saw it as blue and black so I totally get that it can be perceived as either.

The thing for me seeing it as white and gold all hinged on that wider upper piece at the neck reflecting the light as it does, predominately on one side; my brain felt it had to be a metallic color to produce that sheen. Once I figured that out and eliminated that part of the view, then my brain was ok with it being blue and black. Who would have thought this dress would have ever been such a big deal that everyone was talking about?!
