I Think This is What They Call a Staycation

This weekend has been the most vacation-y time I have had since…before our May vacation to AZ?

For the past three weeks I have been completely wrapped up in putting together my first book fair at Sam’s school and on Friday, I got to pack that baby up.  An overwhelming learning experience for sure, but fun and overall so worth it.  I organized about 40 volunteers and ended up with $9000 in sales and giveaways of books going to kids and teachers, not to mention the ~$4000 in new books we can now get for our school’s library.

Sam’s school is only four years old so growing our library is an important endeavor.   The shelves are only about a quarter full and I don’t think our community realizes that the school district does not contribute anything to the maintenance or growth of the library.   Every new book, every repair, every book order, every dusting of the shelves, every check-out, every re-shelving, every inventory taken is provided by parents.  And I happen to be their leader.

Can I put that on my resume?

One additional plus with my life consumed with everything book fair, I dropped at least five, maybe ten pounds? and can wear the jeans I couldn’t for the past two years.  Yeehaw!  There is something to be said for ‘working outside the home.’  Unfortunately, I think the family noticed the lack of wholesome meals and no clean clothes and the dirty dishes and sticky kitchen floor.  Oh well, now maybe they know what I do day to day.

So anyway, I was so looking forward to this weekend to do…nothing.  It turned out to be rainy these past two days with Hurricane Isaac remnants rolling in yesterday (big yay!!) so Gary and I didn’t get up until 11 a.m., and yes! I just typed 11 a.m.  And then I declared it movie day.  Three of us watched Rob Roy and then all six of us sat together and watched 1985’s Back to the Future (where the “Future” was 2015, whoa!).  The rest of them sat through Back to the Future 2 and 3 but I just couldn’t.  There were eight or nine loads of laundry piled up so I thought I better attack that.  But that’s all I did all day other than cook breakfast and then a meal of hotdogs and brats.  It was a vacation, I’m telling ya!

Then today we got up around 10 a.m. and had a few jobs to do around the house but still, we had no pressing deadlines or places to be.  I am sipping a margarita as I type right now.  And we still have tomorrow free!  Thank goodness for some down time.
